How do I convert a veggie garden into a flower garden?
I would like to grow a flower garden in a 10 foot x 10 foot area which was a veggie garden last summer. 2 sides are surrounded by neighbors fences. 1 side is surrounded by the shed and the other side is the yard (which is separated by a short white picket fence to keep the dog out of the garden) I want to use flowers, shrubs, rocks, long grass, maybe a pond or fountain and a bench. I would love to attract butterflies and birds. Is a flower garden less or more work than a veggie garden? Any other suggestions? Keep in mind that I have a tight budget.
Plant perennials. Ask neighbors if they have any they want reduced like iris or lilies, etc. I got a bunch of plants that way and they come back year after year. I don't keep mine totally week free, it's a losing battle. The flowers hide them. Sun is important so consider that. I think it's less work.
